Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that is almost always caused by exposure to asbestos dust in the past. This kind of lung cancer grows in the mesothelium. - Sharp pain in the abdomen
- Weight loss
- Bowel obstruction
- Constant raising fever
Since symptoms of mesothelioma are non-specific, meaning these symptoms could be associated with other forms of diseases, diagnosing this form of cancer is often not easy.
Due to a lack of awareness of this fatal form of cancer, a timely diagnosis cannot accomplish. Unfortunately, mesothelioma is mistaken for other types of diseases since mesothelioma symptoms mimic those of more common conditions.
For instance, pleural mesothelioma could mistake for pneumonia. Or peritoneal mesothelioma might be qualified as a common bowel disorder.
Because of the latency period, diagnosing mesothelioma immediately is not always possible. Symptoms of this form of cancer only appear after 30 to 50 years after exposure to asbestos.

Radiation therapy, when given alone, has never (!) been shown to improve survival from the disease. The necessary radiation dose to treat mesotheli that has not surgically removed would be very toxic, and that is high risk.
Chemotherapy is probable the competent traditional cancer treatment for mesothelioma. In final stages patients it can still control cancer and stop its growth.
Immunotherapy involves the removal of cancer cells, activation by exposure to cytokines, and reinstallation into the peritoneum, accompanied by additional chemotherapy.
It is very complicated and not yet researched enough way of dealing with mesotheli. In the few cases tried this form of treatment leads to significant shrinkage of the tumor.
However, most patients had very early stages of the disease.
